Read this first
1. While basic social backgrounds are provided I'm not going to dictate things like family life for your characters. The rationale for this is simple: it won't matter to the overall story but it may matter for your motivations so feel free to come up with a backstory, just know that I'm never going to ask you for it.
2. As the contest progresses there will be secrets that come to light, some of the secrets will be about the extras but some of them will be about your characters. Be prepared to be flexible please and know that I will offer up the secrets sparingly and in line with the characters you create.
3. Induction into the Moriarty Society is more or less an invitation to let your villainous nature shine through. There's no test, no elaborate ceremony, just an invitation from another member encouraging you to play along for as long as you'd like or until you cross them. When the contest opens I will provide you with a way to identify other society members.
4.Forget what you may know about Victorian England or Sherlock Holmes, that's not going to be relevant here. The setting is unique (well unique-ish) so the social norms are different and Holmes brothers aren't modeled after that particular detective
5.This contest is going to be episodic in nature, similar to Fae-tal Folly and The Orion Mission and at its core is a mystery that you will need to solve.
6. I want to be very clear that you're not one of the good guys in this story, "yes" you're working to solve a mystery but it's so you can help cover the tracks of the perpetrator /spoiler]
There's a distinct chill creeping into the air and if you're not careful the breeze may blow you all the way back to a Steampunk version of Victorian London, a place where the riff raff outnumber the aristocrats and where (if you choose) you'll find your place as a member of The Moriarty Society, a (mostly) high brow group of hooligans whose job it is to ensure that Scotland Yard stays two steps behind whichever bad guy they happen to be backing and who've sworn an oath to do everything they can to thwart both the local constables and the Holmes brothers. Make no mistake here my sweets, you are the villains of this story, but that doesn't mean you'll be denied a happy ending if you earn it.
In order to sort out the exact who's who (and create a proper romp through this world for you all) I need you to claim a character. The name of the character, their skill, and their social background, and who inducted them are aspects you can't change, but please select an age, and traits that appeal to you. There's no need for a FC or an opening outfit at the moment BUT if you want to provide one go right ahead.
