Summerville Castle, a prestige private University, is located in the beautiful countryside of Luzern, Switzerland. Offering 5 different Bachelor's and Master's studies – Law, Psychology, Business Management, Architecture, and Politics and International Studies – Summerville has made a new name for itself, and various children of famous and rich families have attended the College. Summerville became the place to be... to party and, in a few cases, actually study too.
But the past few months haven’t been too kind for Summerville after a scandal and the subsequent loss of money and students. The scandal is all hush hush, but the halls of Summerville have always whispered loudly, and if you listen closely, you can hear them talking drug overdose of a student.
Left with no other choice, Headmistress Veronique Piquet decided to open the doors of Summerville to the less privileged... offering scholarships for the first time since Summerville was founded. A decision that not everyone from the board and the teachers have agreed with.
Some believe it would have been better to close Summerville and move on, but Veronique remained stubborn... in the end, she was given a year to prove that Summerville deserved a second chance...

You can either join Summerville Castle as a Student or as a teacher.

There are 5 majors you can choose from: Law, Psychology, Business Management, Architecture, and Politics and International Studies. Please don’t stress about it too much. I promise you won’t have to write about classes… unless you want to.

None of the extras is off-limits. So if you feel like taking the risk of seducing a teacher, go for it.

If you want to join as a teacher, there are two roles you can choose from. First come, first served:

• Old Teacher has been working in Summerville for 5 years, existing relationships and which department are up to you

• New Teacher, starting this year in Summerville, the department is up to you. No existing relationships

About the relationships, those are up to you, but anything involving romance must have been in the past.
As a new Student, you won’t have any existing relationships, but you might have heard about the older students, given their families and connections

Questions & Answers

Which teachers agreed with Veronique’s decision and who didn’t?

Blake and Helen support her decision, though for different reasons. Helen, because she loves her job, and Blake, because he enjoys the comfort of working at Summerville, and he isn’t in the mood to find something new.

Curtis is neutral about it, though he doesn’t know yet what to think about Veronique.

Joshua believes that it would have been better to close Summerville. He isn’t convinced that the University's reputation can recover from the scandal.

Leon obviously wants Summerville to stay open since he is starting as a new teacher, and he doesn’t want to look for a new position.

Sleeping arrangements

There is a separate wing for the Students and for the teachers.
Everyone has a room for themselves. But since you are all adults, nobody will care where you spend your night. Should you spend the night in a different wing, though, be careful not to get caught sneaking back to your room.

Where exactly is Summerville?

Summerville is located about an hour away from Luzern. There is a bus service, but most of their students have their own cars.
You are allowed to leave the University’s grounds anytime you want. But I wouldn’t advise you to skip classes... unless you love trouble.

Antonio had always been fascinated by law… watching various crime shows once he was old enough, but he was also realistic enough to know that his goal would be hard to achieve. He worked to be accepted at a good University in Spain and worked even harder to keep his good grades. The scholarship for Summerville felt like a dream coming true for Antonio… one that he accepted without any second-guessing. He knows that Summerville could be his ticket for achieving something great, even if it meant leaving Spain and his family behind. Not the best at openly showing his emotions and feelings, and often swallows them down until they burst to the surface. Antonio has always been quick to judge other people based on his first impression, and he rarely changes his opinion… There have been only a few exceptions over the years. Not afraid to speak what is on his mind and has long stopped caring – or maybe he never did – that his words might hurt other people. Daring and adventurous at times, loves to try out new things, as Antonio feels like life is too short and boring.

Son of a German Business Tycoon turned Politician in recent years, Benedikt knows what is expected of him. Summerville was his choice of university, and he is currently in his master’s studies. He is glad that Summerville didn’t close down, as he actually cares for his classes. Benedikt shows little interest in any kind of drama, gossip or scandal... he can only be found at parties if he is dragged there. He is a pretty helpful young man, always giving instructions to new students and making sure that they aren’t lost in the first few weeks. At times, Benedikt can seem a little bit weird and complicated. He doesn’t like to pick fights with other people and yet he can’t help but call their attention to their mistakes, often not realising that it would have been better to keep his mouth shut. He finds it hard to trust people and doesn’t open up easily after a bad experience with fake friends in his youth. Always found it easier to keep his insecurities and problems to himself. But once you push past his walls, you have a caring and loyal friend.

His family owns a few vineyards across Europe, and money has never been a big issue for Dejan... an advantage he doesn't shy away from using. He stumbled into Architecture by accident after first trying his hand at Psychology, but he realised quite quickly that it wasn’t for him. Torn about Summerville staying open as he found friends there… Dejan keeps his mind open to see how things are going to develop with the new students. Not hard to miss since he is often glued to his smartphone wherever he goes… texting, posting on social media, calls, or just listening to music. Classes seem to be the only place he is capable of putting his phone away and actually putting his focus on what is important to him. Easily intrigued by new people, often making the first step and seems to easily connect with them. While Dejan does know a lot of people and enjoys the attention, the crowd of real friends is small, and he would always defend them. He has long stopped caring about the opinion of people that don’t matter to him… life’s too short trying to please everyone.

Spoiled Princess, Daddy's Little Girl or Queen Bee... Eliza has heard it all before, not that it bothers her much. She never made a big secret about her family – old money from her mother’s side – and she obviously enjoys the perks and spotlight that come with her family name. Eliza wasn’t too thrilled about Summerville accepting scholarship students, worrying more about her reputation than anything else. Used to getting what she wants, manipulative and easily knows how to play people into working in her favour. Never been someone to share, and if you offer her a finger, don’t be too surprised if she takes your whole hand. Smiles, charms and compliments are Eliza’s best weapons, and she likes making connections… never without an ulterior motive. Ambitious towards her goals in life, while Eliza does work hard for her grades, she doesn’t always play by the rules. Being her friend does have its perks, but try not to get on her bad side… she is petty, ignores you for days or worse, tries to completely ruin you. Her pride could be her biggest downfall, and it is more likely that hell will freeze over before Eliza apologises for something.

Federico’s father is a former Summerville graduate, and there was little choice for the young man once it was time to choose a university. Summerville did grow on him eventually, though he does wish at times that he had been able to choose a different path for himself. Part of Federico would have preferred to see Summerville closing down after the scandal, just to see where life would have taken him. Spending money quicker than others can earn it – not much of a surprise given he has never worked a day in his life – not just for himself but also on gifts for those that he cares about. Insecure and feels the pressure of his family at times, but he hides it well. Federico is witty with a sharp humour and charming in his interactions… and while he is mostly kind to everyone he interacts with, he is selective about the people around him. There aren’t a lot of people who have seen behind his façade of charisma and pretty smiles. But if Federico cares truly about someone, he can be one of the most loyal people you will ever meet.

Gabriel Toussaint

Social and likes meeting new people. Clumsy. Shy around girls. Terrible sense of humour and direction. Easily bored at times. Daydreamer. Curious and often asks too many questions. Detail-oriented. Intuitive, but prefers to do research. Reliable and always there if people need him.

Gabriel was originally meant to study in Paris, but there was a chance of plans merely weeks before the start of the term, and instead he ended up in Summerville. His family had only recently gotten to money after one of his father’s investments paid off. Gabriel had a hard time settling in… often feeling like he didn’t belong in Summerville. He has settled in the last two years, made friends and yet at times, he still doesn’t feel like he belongs in the world of the rich, spoiled and famous. He is happy that the university isn’t closing down. Down-to-earth, kind and caring, Gabriel finds it easy to meet new people, talk with them and ask questions about them… though at times, he does ask too many of them without fully realising. Girls, on the other hand… Gabriel never seems to find his words around them, often making a fool out of himself. Good grades are important to him, and he spends hours studying for classes and exams… always offering his help to anyone who might need it. Gabriel doesn’t always handle failure well, spending hours questioning his abilities and himself.

Kennedy Gordan

After graduating from High School, Kennedy spent a few months trying to figure out what to do with her life next, doing internships before she stumbled upon Summerville by accident. A university that neither she nor her parents could ever afford, if it weren’t for the scholarship, and Psychology seemed like something that could be interesting enough. Kennedy doesn’t have any high expectations about Summerville and doesn’t particularly care if she makes it or not, as there is more to life than just university. Bubbly, talkative and with a loud and cheerful laugh, Kennedy is often heard first before people get a look at her. She has a tendency to switch topics more than once during a single conversation… depending on whatever is going through her head at the moment. Selfless and helpful, Kennedy is always there if one of her friends needs her… whether with a problem or if they just want to rant about something. And yet she finds it hard to ask for the same help in return… friends and family always come first, and it isn’t unusual for her to keep ignoring her problems until everything collapses like a house of cards.

Finished her bachelor’s in architecture in Dublin, when one of Leah’s professors told her about Summerville and the opportunity to apply for a scholarship. It wasn’t her kind of scene; she had little patience and interest in spending her time around spoiled rich kids, but both her parents and her professor convinced Leah to give it a chance. Part of her knew that it was an opportunity that she wouldn’t get in life again… she only hoped that she wouldn’t regret her decision sooner or later. Often grumpy, rarely smiles, and moody, Leah doesn’t connect easily with other people. Getting her trust broken before made her wary of people. She often hides behind sarcasm, frowny smiles and being stubborn… not sharing much about herself, and if you find yourself in a conversation with Leah, you will quickly realise that she is more of a listener than a talker. Has always been quick to judge people, and her bad temper flares up easily when she is feeling upset and angry… it is best to avoid her in those moments because she won’t hold back in her opinion.

Marijke Visser

Being at a place like Summerville is something that Marijke could have never imagined… not even in her wildest dreams. When she applied for the scholarship all those months ago, she never thought that she would be among those who got accepted. She is curious and nervous at the same time… wondering what will await her once she starts her first term at Summerville. There has been a moment of doubt, and Marijke was close to stepping back from the scholarship, but her parents convinced her otherwise. Always has been a heart person and often sees the world through rose-coloured glasses... Marijke is emotional, an open book that is easy to read. She believes that everyone deserves at least a second chance, though it isn’t usual for her to give people more chances than they truly deserve, and she can’t stay mad at someone. Rather would walk away from any kind of confrontation as she believes that life’s too short to waste time and energy to have pointless arguments… but there is also part of her that’s too scared of getting hurt by the words of someone else.

Niklas Bergqvist

After graduation from High School, Niklas spent months scouting universities and applying for different kinds of scholarships… Summerville was just one of them, and honestly, it was the last one he ever expected to accept him. But to his surprise, they did, and yet he kept his options open till the last moment, and only then did Niklas accept the scholarship for Summerville. Knowing that the university is way out of his league, he told himself to make the best out of his time there, hoping to make connections that could be useful for his future. Niklas tends to hand out advice without being asked for it, and most of the time, he doesn’t have the best ideas… either completely missing the problem or saying the first thing that comes to his mind. He possesses a strong opinion about things that he cares about… too headstrong and easily starts arguments, and yet tends to fail to realise that they often lead nowhere. Niklas is dedicated, loves a good challenge and at times loses himself in another project of his… ignoring his limits and often starting something new and forgetting everything else around him.

Oskar Järvinen

Key Traits: Eidetic memory. Often comes across as Mr Know-it-all. Works pretty well under stress. Tries to be social but finds it hard to make the first move. Pragmatic in most aspects of his life. Direct and straight to the point. Open-minded. Gets jealous easily. Has a hard time letting loose. Perfectionist and detail-oriented. Notices the smallest details and is likely to miss the bigger picture. Picky. Over-critical, especially of himself. Dedicated to whatever he does. Idealistic, sometimes too much.

Oskar’s father runs a successful technology company, but the young man shows little interest in anything related to computers, hardware and software… his heart and mind can be found in architecture and art, which didn’t make it too difficult to choose Summerville as a university. Having heard about its reputation, it seemed like the perfect place and the scandal last year didn’t change much about Oskar’s opinion about it. Not after everything he had learned and that he will still learn now that he has started on his master’s degree. With his eidetic memory, learning or understanding new subjects didn’t prove much of a problem to him… the downside, though, is that he also remembers everything embarrassing moment he had in his life. Or reminding others of what they once said or did… one of the reasons why Oskar finds it hard to make the first move when he meets someone new. Doesn’t relax easily and often comes across as uptight and boring, and even at parties, he can be found standing in one of the corners observing people instead of joining them for a pleasant conversation, and Oskar is often the one to leave first.

Ryouta Masuda

Key Traits: Smooth-tongued when it serves him right. No problem admitting that he is wrong. Takes his classes and studies seriously. Bad-tempered when he feels stressed or annoyed. Cold and Cruel when he gets pushed too far. Prefers to keep his true feelings to himself. Can see right through people when he’s being lied to. Passive-aggressive when he doesn't like or agree with something. Hedonist... enjoys the fine things in life. Determined, doesn’t give up easily. Puts his own comfort above all. Very unfocused, he wants to do a million things at once.

Coming from a very traditional Japanese family, Ryouta already knew since High School that one day he would be taking over his grandfather’s company. Studying at Summerville is his first time being outside of Japan for a longer time. It was his grandfather’s proposal, as he believed it would be a good opportunity for Ryouta to connect with people with similar backgrounds and allow for a new experience. His first year in Summerville wasn’t a pleasant one as he found it hard to get used to a different culture. But failure wasn’t an option as Ryouta didn’t want to put shame on his family’s name. His grandfather would have preferred him to return to Japan after the scandal, but Ryouta only has a year left for his bachelor’s degree. Proud of his achievements and grades... spending quite a lot of hours in the library studying, and it seems like he is doing too many things at the same time. He has never been someone to wear his emotions on his sleeve... except for his temper. Pushing Ryouta too far reveals a side of him that he usually keeps well hidden behind polite smiles and pleasant talk.

Simon Edwards

Having finished his bachelor’s degree in law, Simon was planning his next steps when he received an e-mail from Summerville offering him a scholarship for a master’s degree. Strict and demanding as a teacher, he takes no BS from his students and in the past, he had caused more than one problem with some rich kid’s parents. Not that he particularly cares, as he believes everyone should work hard for their achievements, and he is curious to see how the new situation at Summerville will develop. Curtis knew from an early age what he wanted to achieve in life, and while there were a few setbacks along the way, giving up wasn’t an option for him, and he kept trying. But at one point, he had to admit defeat… a painful realisation that he wouldn’t be the well-known architect that he had always been hoping for. The offer to teach at Summerville Castle came at the wrong time – 4 years ago – and yet Curtis took the chance, and he never looked back. Perfectionist and he will always strive for more... not stopping once he has his mind set on something. At work, Curtis prefers to keep to himself, and he always makes sure to separate work from anything related to his private matters. He has a rational outlook on life, he likes to do the best thing possible, and normally balances this by taking small pleasures for himself. Curtis has a good heart... often joking that he hides it well behind a layer of sarcasm and dark humour. He can be broody and moody at times, and in those moments, it is better to leave him to his thoughts. Former Summerville Student, Helen, finished her studies at Cambridge. She did a few internships at different companies, but in the end, her path led her back to Summerville. Accepting a teaching position two years ago and she does enjoy her job… happy to be working alongside to side with her brother, Blake, though they don’t always see eye-to-eye regarding their jobs. Helen loves listening to her students, whether it is just a question or their problems, and tries her best to encourage them. Though Helen has always been someone who loves to talk, she often switches from one topic to another without even thinking about it. She never cared much about personal boundaries… always at least one step too close to someone, and she is known for her spontaneous hugs. She tends to be a bit naïve, refusing to accept that not everybody deserves a second chance… her friends always joke that she sees the world through her rose-tinted glasses. Helen is the first one to offer help or advice, no matter if she knows the person or not, but her advice isn’t always the best, and it wouldn’t be the first time she has made the situation worse.

Growing up in Scotland, Joshua lived there his whole life until he got the offer to teach at Summerville six years ago. There are days when he wonders if he made the right decision, and after the scandal, he believes closing down the University would have been the right call. Joshua can be a bit of a mystery for people who don’t know him too well... not that he is making it easy, as he is wary of new people and doesn’t open up easily. He tends to be more introverted and has never been a fan of bigger crowds. Once he feels comfortable around someone, he cracks a few jokes... he does have a weird humour though. Joshua prefers to observe, trying to get a better impression of something before approaching them. Showing his emotions is still not his strongest suit, but he is loyal and caring when he genuinely trusts and likes someone. Not the best at expressing his feelings and prefers to use gestures and small gifts instead. Arguing with Joshua can sometimes feel like fighting a battle… stubborn to a fault and hardly admitting that he is wrong.

Though he does occasionally judge them for thinking that they know better, and for thinking money can buy you everything. Golden Retriever in human form as his friends and family often joke… smiling most of the time and full of energy, Leon always seems to be on the move. Appointed as the new headmistress in the middle of the last school year due to her father’s declining health… and the still ongoing problems after the scandal, Veronique was thrown straight into the cold water, and she did what she thought was best in this situation… a decision she still stands by despite the critique. Never good at asking others for help, Veronique tries to take control of everything, even if most of the time it shouldn’t be her concern. She does love her job despite all the problems and complications that seem to keep happening lately, and she is aware that she tends to put it first sometimes… but Summerville deserves a second chance in her mind.  Social settings with people she doesn’t know make her feel nervous and awkward, and she usually tries to avoid them as much as she can before embarrassing herself by stumbling over words or laughing nervously. Veronique likes to believe herself to be in control of her emotions, but if she gets pushed too much, she gets loud, explosive and loses the last bit of her usual calm demeanour. She is a romantic at heart… a side she rarely shows as she is afraid of getting hurt.

Background

AJ is an early 00s baby and born into a family who was a part of a rock band. Her father behind the drums and her mother behind the mic. They were a popular group having gigs nightly. And soon they were touring.  AJ was not planned but a happy accident at least the first years of her life.

At 4 AJ mom got tired of the whole stay-at-home mother and she was ready to tour again. Maybe it was the jealousy or maybe motherhood didn’t suit her as much as she expected. But no worries, she was still kind a good mother she knew touring was not something you could take a four-year-old to. She asked her sister too take care of her. While her sister was married, she didn’t have a child of her own. So she was more than happy to take care of her niece. Who was more of a daughter to her since she was born is what her aunt tells her till this day.

AJ aunts loved her a lot, her childhood was full of laughter, fairytale stories, gaming and playful dancing and singing. While with her mom she felt like an obstacle even as a child she could see her mother was not happy with her life. Her aunt made her whole world as fun as she could and where her aunt mind forgets something her aunt felt the other part. They tried having children of their own but after time again failing, they gave up and gave all there love to AJ.

AJ grew up to be happy, easy going, naive, one of the popular girls and a people pleaser. Her aunt had done well.

Her mother stopped with the band when AJ was eight but went straight into being busy with another of her hobbies which she shared with a friend “fashion” She saw AJ more often, but AJ still wanted to stay with her aunt and her mother understood and respected her decision.

Her father however kept going with his band and when that one disbanded, he got robbed into another one, finally turning his life away from it when AJ mother threatened with a divorced (AJ was around 11) . He started his own music label with his old band; he had 60% shares which is where most of there wealth is coming from. He also started a music instrument chain that is doing really well.

But at 13 her world did a whole 360. A classmate had found her diary and exposed it all. AJ was questioning her sexuality and was struggling with it all, so she had written down her though. At first, she was surprised than angry but then the shock of it all sank in. While she hoped her friends would be supportive her, they were anything but... at such a tender and confused stage the bullying started.

The bullying she received at the hands of her so-called friends were more brutal than any other classmate that cursed at her. The loud whispering where the nastiest things someone could hear. With all the words hurled towards her, she regretted deeply that she wrote her thoughts down at night, blaming herself for everything that was happening and crying herself to sleep most nights.

The worst part was AJ didn’t even know for sure she was gay, something that should have been private until she was ready to disclose it on her terms had been taken away from her.
She did not tell her aunt and uncle. It took her around two years to come to terms with her sexuality and that there was nothing wrong with her. In those two years she also became isolated, but she actually liked the invisibility and quiet that was around herself after the severe bullying.

It those years she also gathered the courage to tell her aunt she was gay. She was shaking like a leave afraid to be rejected once more but the hug she received, and being peppered with kisses was all she wanted but not expected. Her aunt told her she would always love her and that it did not matter. Her aunt was ready for a coming out party with a pink and unicorn theme. It was then that she told her aunt about the severe bullying and that no one would be coming. So, they still had the coming out party but just the three of them and AJ never felt that much loved. Her aunt took her out of that school the next Monday.

It may have been 17 or 18 when AJ started to feel more secure, confident about who she was and what she wanted in life. She did become more wary who she let close. It was also the first time she got a girlfriend. The sneaky glances, short kisses all felt electric and cute. AJ felt sexier and more alive like she ever did, she was heartbroken when it ended. After her first girlfriend she had more girlfriends, nothing really serious more experimenting and enjoying being in a relationship.

She stopped going to school after getting her diploma. At 19 she started to work at her mother fashion company as a model. She did it for two years before her trust fund became available with that money she doesn’t need to work. But it motivated her to make her own money and for that she needed to go to school again. So she applied for a small intimate but good school or so she thought, but she had flashbacks the moment she stepped foot in Summerville regretting her choices. but for once she remained stubborn. Or maybe it was the girl with the sweet smile that motivated her. A relationship that felt serious, Angelica (Angel how AJ calls her). But she broke it off in the summer, which AJ is devastated about, and she wasn’t sure she wanted to return this year.

She's a professional actress, whether she liked it or not, and she's been for quite a while now - blood is thicker than water, right? And she's had a lifetime of practice to go through it, and getting things came easily for her. She likes to keep a pretty smile on her face, even when she's not actually happy. Mila's disarming charm allowed for smooth sailing through the lavish life and high society she has been a part of her entire life.

While her motivation rarely comes from an egocentric place, she stumbles into the grey and black area mainly because of the lack of foresight, rather than malice - good attention is usually somewhere in there. 

She's the girl who will know all the best places in London, and the one who will have access to the best parties with all the coolest up-and-coming bands. People say she has a radiant personality and talking to her is quite easy - she's the type to smile at a stranger, chat at a line at the store or randomly walk up to someone to say something - she makes friends easily, but people are not really getting to know her properly at the same time: she can be hard to read, and she's hard to open up properly.

Mila is the girl who will most likely exchange some texts in the middle of the night and make a trip to meet a friend, a lover - and she will make sure you meet her in the back instead of risking any kind of outside influence. She's private, and at the same time, she's out there in public and playing her role. You might think you know a lot about Mila, but you honestly only see what she wants you to see.

Make no mistake: she is not into embellishing, filtering and retouching all bits of her life, but learning from the experience - and mistakes of those closest to her - she is not letting people in easily. She is not opening herself up to someone's mercy, which is good because you can't get hurt. It's also shitty because you can't really do so many of the good things either. One might say she fears intimacy, Mila will say she is cautious with it, and reality will tell you a different story. She tried to continue with the image, she tried to taint it a little, and lately, she realised she had no clue which one of those girls was her. Most of the things you might think about her are, sadly, a lie. There's a lack of self-love in her; she tried to fill it with love coming from all around her, and most of her happy moments lived under the public eye were just something she went through as if it was expected, and if you look back, closely enough, at all those publicised moment, you will easily figure out the truth: Mila is not really there.

Over time, she grew cynical. She’d throw a very dry remark from the top of her head, and while most might consider it to be something witty, said to amuse, it’s simply the first thought that comes to mind. What she keeps to herself might be worse, but it’s private, which means it doesn’t exist. The sad part is the fact that she doesn’t realise it.

By the time Andreas Galanis met Viktoria Baranova, they were both two hopeful souls recovered from a bad marriage (one in public, one in private). It happened two years later that the well-known, well-liked Andreas got in the way of Vika, working on a theatre play together. It didn't take them long to fall in love - despite the age difference and how some might have considered it far too strange - but hey, when you're beautiful, interesting and fairly rich, all is forgiven. This time, the proposal was private, the love was private, the marriage was private - actually, they were as private as Vika could stand, which meant a delicately curated Instagram journal of the love, wrapped in mysterious captions, old-fashioned filters, beautiful corners of a huge loft in Soho (London, clearly) - and, right then and there was where Matilda first became official.

Her mother, in a huge white dress, tugging delicately around her bump and curves alike, a smile on her lips, and a male hand hugging her from behind. Welcome, Matilda Sofiya Baranova Galanis, to the world (and the public). To someone who might have looked from the outside, Vika did have it all and some more. She turned 25 when she gave birth to Mila, and before Mila turned 3, things fell apart. Andreas and Vika parted ways on good terms, without any public interference (more or less), and quite expectedly, life continued. Vika grew into her new role as a role model, and she gave it a name: a miracle worker. According to Vika Baranova, a miracle worker is:

noun. a single mother with a full-time job as a director who started working when her child was only 3.

Very impressive, had it not been for the fact she was not really a single parent - Andreas was present in her life since she could remember and anything else people came to claim at various times of her life would only bring out this mean side in her, the feisty little girl who rarely had to fight for things and loved to have her way. Nevertheless, Vika did well: she became a full-time producer, women's rights activist, traveller, fashion icon and, despite really disliking the word, influencer. Mila remembers travelling more than most children do and living between two cities, flying around the country. Celebrities have always been a normal thing in her life - she realised in middle school - and she could not remember a time when someone was not taking a photo of her, whether it was her mother, the fashion crew she socialised with, or someone else. The chronicles of Mila still exist in the dark pit that is Vika's social media accounts. By the time she was a teenager, Mila had travelled more places than some can hope to see, she'd missed more school and birthdays than she asked for, and each time she felt there was a bit more stability coming, it would all be shaken up again. Despite some regular shakings and another Husband for Vika, there was nothing more shocking than the moment her mother came out as part of the LGBTQ+ community, a bisexual woman. Her father married at the same time, and her sister was born not far later - and until this past year, Mila could easily say this was the most shocking part of her life. And then, her mother married Ursula Rossi, a woman who basically stands against most things her mother is advocating. Love is blind, they say, but at what point is it safe to publicly say it's also def and utterly unwilling to see past the butterflies?

Mila had no clue, but here they were - a very definition of a modern family.

Fun-ish Facts

She's not a fan of her photos unless it's done under her terms (and they rarely are). The same thing can be said about recordings, too, about any kind of unwanted representations - she's picky about her content, her mother would say, but it's more about being tired of being it. Often sings around the house. Never, ever can do work in complete silence - often likes to do stuff with whatever white noise she finds the most comforting at the point. She's a good cook, likes to play around with textures, tastes and such, the result of often sticking around the kitchen and picking up bits of advice from various chefs and cooks around. Starts many things, finishes very few. She had a dog when she was little and managed to come to the conclusion that she does not have what it takes to own one. *Loves* the fact that her father played a James Bond villain.

Viktoria Baranova Rossi, mother, 50. Founder & CEO of Journal (web platform dealing with everything a woman might take interest in today, from politics to art, fashion or psychology and everyday life), theatre & TV producer, screenwriter, actress, long-running Vogue columnist, public persona/influencer - the resume list is quite extensive, to say the least. Viktoria is also a fierce feminist (read one of her many essays pointing it out), Women's March OG (and very vocal supporter of #MeToo), and co-founder of the #SaveMe NPO focused on helping victims of family abuse. Nowadays, Vika is married to Ticino’s Council of States, Ursula Rossi and living her life between London and Bern.

Andreas A. Renard, father, 56. Formerly a famous West End actor, nowadays an esteemed West End producer. Unlike her mother, Matilda’s father is a very private person and a dedicated artist, and - as Vika said every day since their divorce - an amazing father. Never absent, nor too busy, Andreas really poured his heart and soul into his relationship with Matilda, making room for some security in her own heart quite early in her life, despite the early divorce from Vika. Given that he maintained a good relationship (both private and public) with Vika throughout the years, he was supportive of all her relationships and always put his focus on keeping Matilda grounded and normal.

Audrey Isaaz, step-mother, 46. Chef and a restaurant owner. Andreas’ third (and, according to both, last) wife, Alice, came into Matilda’s life quite suddenly, but she got used to the relaxed dynamics and vibe she had very easily. The fact that Vika made sure that Matilda knew she was happy about Audrey and Andreas - publicity stunt or not, it doesn't matter anymore - made it easier for Mila to accept the woman, and, later on, the arrival of Laura.

Ursula Rossi, step-mother, 52. Council of State representing the canton Ticino, coming from the conservative, right-winged party, the step-mother no one saw coming: she can't hold anything against the woman personally, but politically, she feels like she stepped into an alternate reality where her mother has been brainwashed and political opinions did not matter to her. Alexandra has been good to her mother, but Mila still finds it hard to believe this has actually happened. The other thing that came with the marriage was a whole other level of media exposure, and - as an extra bonus - a sister.

Lena Rossi Chiesa, step-sister, 25, from the previous marriage between Ursula and Mario Chiesa, an investment banker who had as little to do with politics as possible, which led to his divorce from Ursula in the first place. It makes very little sense that the two haven't spent more than a few hours together, but nothing in the whole thing has made sense.

There’s an iconic line in Mag Cabot’s iconic book that is The Princess Diaries, to which I always wanted to relate, but today the lack of relatability to the line stood out even more, as Mia (the princess in question, you should read the book), wakes up after her mother which rarely happened, and she noted the following:

“But Mom’s been depressed ever since her last boyfriend turned out to be a Republican.”

Honestly, having my mother marry again almost five years ago seemed like a plausible turn of events. Marrying a woman? Less probable, but quite possible, sexuality is a fluid thing, I believe. Having her marry an equivalent of a republican? I wished it were a stupid gossip written in the Mirror or the Sun, yet, there she was, in all of her glory.

Ursula Rossi, nice skin, good hair, pilates body, speaks at least three languages fluently, and is the most closeted right-wing politician I have ever had the displeasure of calling my stepparent. Lena was there too, as well as Ursula’s sister with her family, and her brother with his.

But, here we are, sitting on the deck of this amazing lake house, and I’m sure I’ve been to nice places, but the Swiss wealth is something else.

Have I mentioned we were here all together?

My mother, sitting there in her very modest bikini, not a touch of makeup on her freckled face, grinning at everything Ursula said, proudly displaying her front teeth gap and the light gumminess of her smile, she usually hid well on all occasions. So, there I was, trying to match the energy.

“Are you looking forward to finally starting the classes?”

I looked at Ursula, honestly unsure how to reply to that.

Was I happy to get to Master’s Degree study in a country I do not particularly know, in an actual boarding school, with my estranged step sister? “Of course, I can hardly wait.”

I smiled at that, crossing my legs, putting some additional distance between the army of blondes in front of me. Would I look good blonde?

“The faculty is quite good,” Ursula continues, while her brother nods from behind the grill. I nodded too, hoping this would finally leave this topic behind, as I did not really agree with any of it. London had better schools that dealt with International Studies. New York, which was an option, and a welcome escape, too. Summerville sounded like a place where you go to lose a hefty amount of money. I missed whoever he complimented first, but he is still on the topic. “I mean, Helen Mitchel is quite young—”

“Not to mention, an American,” Lena scoffed and, suddenly, I really liked this person.

“I heard a lot of good things about her,” I lied through my teeth. It got their attention. “Harvard was looking at her last semester, actually.”

Clearly, I wasn’t sure if that was true at all, but the bunch was silent. Except for Vika, who just reached out for my hand, squeezing it.

“You see? You are at the right place, just as I told you.”

I smiled, cemented in my defeat.

Background:
Sophia von Adlerberg was born in Heidelberg on a damp Tuesday afternoon in March. Helene von Adlerberg, a literature and history teacher with a deep love for hiking in the Black Forest and a habit of telling you the unvarnished truth whether you wanted it or not, never saw the point in raising children who didn’t know exactly where they stood. By the time Sophia could walk, she had been taught how to shake hands properly, make eye contact without flinching, and avoid asking anyone how much money they made (unless you already knew the answer, in which case, it was fine).

Her father, Klaus, was the sort of man who could talk about “the business” for hours without ever specifying what the business actually was, though everyone knew it involved hotels, vineyards, and enough investments to keep the family’s old money exactly where it had always been. The rest of his time and arguably the larger portion, was spent golfing, which he considered a kind of work in its own right. Klaus’s expectations for his middle child were clear: join the company, keep the family name polished to a shine, and learn to swing a club without looking ridiculous.

Sophia’s elder brother, Maximilian, did everything their parents wanted with an alarming lack of hesitation, and her younger sister, Clara, got away with almost anything because she could. Sophia existed in the middle, both shielded and scrutinised, the child with enough independence to make her own choices and enough watchful eyes on her to make sure she didn’t stray too far.

The von Adlerbergs were a family of traditions. Sunday lunches in the garden no matter the weather, summer holidays by Lake Como or in the Tyrolean Alps, the annual Christmas party where everyone wore something red “for luck” and no one left before midnight. Sophia, who had inherited her mother’s sharp eyes and her father’s instinct for reading a room, learned early that appearances were not just important, they were currency. She became fluent in the subtle languages of posture, tone, and clothing, able to gauge a person’s priorities by the cut of their jacket or the shoes they’d chosen that morning.

It was assumed, naturally, that she would follow Maximilian into the family business. She even let them think so for a while, attending the sort of private schools where the curriculum was heavy on classical languages. But at Heidelberg University, she drifted toward psychology. Her parents didn’t object, not really. Summerville was exactly what she wanted, a place just far enough from home to breathe.

Lake Como

The von Adlerbergs did not alter their summer plans. If the roof caved in, someone would have it fixed by Tuesday and they would still leave for Lake Como on Wednesday. Tradition wasn’t up for negotiation.

So here they were, Maximilian at the wheel of the motorboat, Clara in the bow with her hair streaming behind her, Helene assessing the shoreline as though measuring it for changes no one else could see. Sophia sat in the middle, adjusting the hem of the linen skirt her mother had ironed that morning.

“You’re quieter than usual,” Helene said, not turning her head. Sophia’s shoulders lifted in a small shrug.

Maximilian picked up the silence, as he always did, describing some dinner at the firm and the unfortunate choice of wine that had been made there. She half-listened, half-watched the pale outline of the villa approach, its shutters the exact same green they’d been since she was a child.

“That’s why you never trust a man who orders rosé in a boardroom,” Maximilian finished, glancing back with the satisfaction of a man who had arrived at his point. Her lips curved politely. The boat cut through the water. Helene began talking about the state of the garden. The summer air felt like it always had, warm and rehearsed.

The villa’s private strip of shoreline was already warm underfoot by the time they arrived, the lake lapping lazily at the pebbles. Clara tossed her sandals into the grass and waded in without hesitation, shrieking once the water reached her knees.

“You forget every year that it’s cold,” Maximilian called after her, stripping off his shirt with the resigned air of someone preparing for battle.

“It’s refreshing,” Clara countered, flinging a handful of water in his direction. Sophia dropped her tote onto a sunbed and stretched out, watching them with a faint smile.

“You’re not coming in?” Maximilian asked, standing shin-deep, hair ruffled by the breeze.

“In a minute,” she said, which everyone knew meant probably not at all.

Clara swam a few strokes and came up grinning, water droplets clinging to her lashes. “You just don’t want to ruin your hair.”

Sophia shaded her eyes. “You say that like it’s a bad thing.” Maximilian splashed Clara then, and she retaliated with an accuracy that suggested years of training. Within seconds, they were both laughing, half-competitive, half-childish.

“Don’t drown each other before lunch,” Sophia called, though without much urgency.

Maximilian waded closer, dripping and triumphant. “Still not coming in?”

She tipped her head back, eyes closed against the sun. “I’m providing moral support. Very important role.” Clara swam in again, slicking her hair back and eyeing Sophia like a cat deciding whether to pounce.

“So,” she said, leaning her elbows on the edge of the dock, “I heard from Aunt Theresa. Apparently he’s engaged now.”

Maximilian groaned. “Clara.”

“What? She’s fine.” Clara’s grin was too bright to be innocent. “Besides, you already knew, didn’t you?”

Sophia adjusted her sunglasses. “Yes.”

“That’s it? Just ‘yes’?” Clara kicked at the water. “You spoke to him, didn’t you?”

Sophia tilted her head toward the horizon. “Briefly.”

“And?” Maximilian prompted, though it sounded more like a warning than curiosity.

“He seemed… happy,” she said, as though testing the word. “Told me she bakes bread from scratch. Very wholesome.”

Clara laughed, a quick burst. “You hate homemade bread.”

“I dislike bad homemade bread and baking,” Sophia corrected, with a smile that was almost real.

Maximilian tossed a pebble into the lake, sending ripples between them. “Well. Good for him.”

Sophia leaned back in her chair. “Good for him,” she echoed, and let the sun soak the rest of the conversation out of her.

Reserved, down-to-earth, calm, a bit of a nerd, soft spoken, quite discreet, not confrontational : She keeps to herself, is very sucess driven, never seen without her books, notes and cardboard revision sheets. She's always smiling, welcoming, open to chat. She listens way more than she talks, understands a lot of languages and loves to ear a new one.

For some, she presents quite boring and, in fact, is utterly forgettable. For some others, her room is a little too clean, she's a little too secretive, and she takes notes when she watches True Crimes – suspition makes her laugh, then change the subject with the same word each time – Absurd.

A bit childish still, since she hides too much and have too much of superficials encounters to have refined her own self. Her fear of being discovered made her a really good liar, her lack of connexion with anyone else that her brother made her quite emotionally immature, in bright contrast with her collected and responsible image and reputation.

Background:

In a international school, her family is local. In a family of three, she's the second. Amidst the privileged and the spoiled, she's the girl next door. Her brother graduated with honours before her in the same major, and her little sister is already a bright star in mathematics.

The thing is: her mother is a gambler, an casino addict attention-grabber, and quite the character. She has always believed her children to be so so special, and while her first was brilliant and her last was gifted from the cradle, her middle child was... The middle child.

Her father? He's a drunk, inherited a fortune that he blew.

The cold, hard truth is that her family has been broke since her brother's first year in Summerville. He was almost expelled from the school pretty quickly, and he was saved by a silly idea from his then-15-year-old sister Agnes: she would pretend that she was, indeed, special to her mother, but in a different way than him. Just ADD. Why? Well, the pills. His brother could sell those to his rich friend and pay for his school fees, saving their reputation in the process. He wouldn't need much, and his mother's connexion wouldn't be an obstacle to multiple prescriptions, after all, right? She would come visit him, give him some boxes, he would give her money, and she would come give the tuition to the headmistress as if her parents sent her, pretending they didn't want to use the bank for this or that, or convenience, or just because poor little sister missed her dear big brother. And nobody would notice anything. The most susprising thing was : it worked. And it worked more and more and more as her mother was so glad to jump from docs to docs to docs.

Quickly, the « lockerbox » was born : the rumored anonymous locker where you would leave a letter with your wishes for a good party and a heafty fee, and after a while you would have a delivery, sometimes by postal means, sometimes in your dormroom, sometimes in your bag. It was still a little on the down low and never that much, so it was never caught and considered by the teachers as a youthful urban legend, a bored rich kid fantasy to pretend to be on the other side of the law.

When Osvald graduated, she was accepted – barely, yes, but she was. And they kept it going, with a little more of this, a little more of that, and years of expertise.

Their trafic is steady, at least she thought. The rumors of an overdose are giving her just an inch of a doubt – it couldn't be... Their fault, isn't it ? It's not exactly legal, but... It's still a medication, no ?

Fun Facts:

Green is for international crime law, blue is for international commercial law, pink is for local laws with stickers for each european country, and yellow is for diplomatic case law : it's her way of organizing her space, and she does her makeup accordingly of the specifics of her class or her studies.

She always have some sort of candy on her.

She likes mice and rabbits a lot and often doodles one or the other when she's thinking.

She dresses so conventionally she probably stands out a bit.

Relationships:

- Osvald Haussener : Her brother and best friend. They call each other quite often and have an impressive bundle of terms and words that could be considered as the language-for-two twins develops. They are incredibly close and in a deep denial of what they are doing.

- Eliza : She's her litteral girl next door : They met because Eliza had the room next to her when Agnes arrived. Quickly, the former bullied the latter. Agnes was jealous of her, Eliza felt of course way better, they shared the same amount of contempt for each other from the get-go. Eliza was cruel, Agnes didn't reacted – she knew better than make HER a real enemy – so Eliza got bored, and just kind of forgot her. Of course, they met again at their doorsteps. Some tepid exchanges first, superficial chit-chats then, witty remarks after. It crept slowly, but grew an habit, a familiarity. Agnes doesn't know if she hates her, admire her, or fear her, but she finds herself still being the background character for the star Eliza is, and some even call her that in her face. When Eliza humiliated Gabriel, Agnes didn't comment – she knew better still – but just put a bit of seafood in Eliza's meal a few days later, then tended to her while she was so sick after that freak cross-contamination from an unknown source. Agnes still wonders how she feels about her own self after such an act, and even more how she feels about Eliza.

-Ryouta : She has the biggest, most obvious, childish crush on him ever. She has never actually talked to him, but boy did she talked about him. Observed him a lot, learned a lot about him, looks at him dreamily each time she sees him from afar, and all that to be litteraly fleing the premices at the slightest risk of them interacting, grabbing her books and cardboards notes of every colour before leaving, pretending to be so so late to, err, something.

-Blake : He's one of her teachers, and she has been seen blushing sometimes when he speaks, has been going to him to "check her notes" or asking after classes for his expertise on "something she didn't quite get". She really doesn't need a scandal, and attention. Really doesn't. Really. She drew him as a big, strong bunny several times.
